You already know that your club is the oldest continuous operating club in the United States. Have you ever wondered about the history of the club? Jerry Finch has been doing a great job of finding old pictures and memories and hanging them around the club. Come in and see the newest historical artifact where the governor of Illinois, Jim Edgar, came to the club to shoot trap in 1994 and his scorecard is framed at the club.
Jerry continues to look for historical information for the club. We are only 4 years away from a major milestone of 150 years. So please share any timeline information or pictures you have from our very rich history so we can include the information in our records.
This brand-new section in our monthly newsletter brings you fascinating stories on our club's history. Each month, we'll share a glimpse into the past, and you can click the link to dive into the full story on our website.
Founded in 1879, our gun club stands as a living testament to the deep-rooted traditions of American marksmanship. To put its age into perspective, W.E. Wheeler and the original nine founding members were actively shooting as a club two years before the infamous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
Looking for that perfect place to volunteer to help at the club? We need RSO volunteers to staff the range and help keep our members safe and serve the entire membership by earning your NRA Certified Range Safety Officer course here at the club Class to be April 12th 8AM—6PM If interested please email safetymike@charter.net
The High School trap season is officially getting ready to start. As always, we are looking for volunteers to help with the counter and bar. Please stop in any night and talk to one of the volunteers who help keep the league going each season. First practice is Feb 25 starting at 5pm and running for 10 weeks. The leagues will begin on March 12th. On Wednesday nights, the kitchen is open, so come on out and enjoy some food and drinks while watching these amazing High School students compete.
